Notes from the list
These are the 35 days in Section 1 of the notification, on which government offices and Revenue and Magisterial Courts are closed. Some fall on Sundays or holiday Saturdays. Half holiday from 1 P.M.: Lakshmi Puja, 25-10-2026 (Sunday). Section 3 lists 19 of these days as public holidays under Section 25 of the NI Act (these also bind banks): 14 Jan, 26 Jan, 3 Mar, 21 Mar, 14-16 Apr, 1 May, 27 May (Id-ul-Zuha, later moved to 28 May), 15 Aug, 12 Sep, 21 Sep, 2 Oct, 18-21 Oct, 8 Nov, 25 Dec. 1 Apr is closed to the public at banks only (annual closing of accounts). Second and fourth Saturdays are holidays; other Saturdays are working days. Employees may take 2 of the 39 restricted holidays in Section 5. Each district commissioner may declare 1 local holiday (Kamrup Metro gets 2, declared by GAD). GAD may declare 2 more holidays with the Chief Minister's approval. Ali-Aye-Ligang is a full holiday in 11 named districts and a restricted holiday elsewhere in 2026. A GAD notification of March 2026 made Ali-Aye-Ligang a full gazetted holiday 'henceforth' with no date given, so it probably applies from 2027. Dates for moon-dependent festivals may be changed by later order.
