Fact-Checking Policy

A wrong holiday date can cost someone a wasted trip to the bank or a missed train, so we treat every date with care.

Our sources

  • Central government: the DoPT office memorandum for the year.
  • Banks: the RBI holiday list under the Negotiable Instruments Act, for each state.
  • Stock markets: the official circulars of NSE, BSE and MCX.
  • States: each state government’s holiday notification.

How we check

  • Every date is read from the notification itself where we can open it, or from a faithful copy of it.
  • When we could only confirm a date from published copies and news reports, the date is marked reported on the page.
  • Days of the week are calculated, not typed, so they always match the date.
  • A second check compares each list against its source before it goes live.

Changes and corrections

Governments sometimes move a holiday after the list is published, for example after moon sighting for Id. We update the page when an official order is issued. If you spot an error, tell us through the contact page and include the official order if you have it.
