Notes from the list
Notified under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881; applies to State Government offices too. Sundays are already public holidays; Thai Poosam (1 Feb) and Deepavali (8 Nov) fall on Sundays. The notification has 24 items: item 10, Annual closing of accounts on 1 April 2026 (Wednesday), applies only to commercial and co-operative banks and is left out here because government offices stay open. Separate one-off holidays were declared later: 23 April 2026 (Thursday) for the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly general election, and 6 October 2026 (Tuesday) for the Madurantakam and Dharapuram assembly bye-elections in the areas concerned only (G.O. (Ms) No. 575). Muslim festival dates depend on moon sighting.
